Winner, Winner, but no Chicken Dinner

I’m a natural introvert, so I’m not usually a fan of attention. But I like winning awards. I won a couple recently that I’m pretty excited about.

Last month, my novella, Triangle Speakeasy, won first place in the 2020 American Night Writers Association Beginning of Book Contest (first 500 words) in the Historical category. The Annual ANWA Writers Conference is one of my favorite events every year. 2020 was a virtual conference, but I still loved it!

Last year, My novella, Brooklyn Heights, won honorable mention (2nd Place) in the 2019 BYU/Covenant Communication Story Catcher Novella-writing Contest. During the fall of 2019, I worked with two senior BYU editing students to refine my manuscript. It was a fun process! Unfortunately, Covenant let me know recently that they would not be publishing my novella, so I’ll be doing it myself sometime in the future. I wasn’t as impressed with “honorable mention” until I realized that it meant 2nd place.
